Sematic interoperability focuses on what is exchanged to avoid loss of information during the transactions. The OSMoSE (Overall Semantic Modelling for System Engineering initiative) arises from the need of enhancing the way information is exchanged among stakeholders, enabling efficient interoperability among their model-based infrastructures. The primary goal of the OSMoSE initiative is to produce the Space System Ontology (SSO), using ORM and NORMA Pro tool. However, some stakeholders raised concerns about relying solely on NORMA’s capabilities (e.g. see “Lessons Learned from Software Implementation of the Model-Based Engineering Hub Based on the Space System Ontology”, MBSE 2024) to develop this Ontology, but not viable alternatives have been demonstrated yet. In light of this, our proposal advocates for exploring the feasibility of providing a new solution using ESSENTIAL tool to support ORM. By capitalizing on its existing capabilities, which must be adapted according to ORM characteristics, we aim to enhance semantic interoperability and address the limitations posed by exclusive reliance on NORMA.
